If you are among the many people who struggle every day, keep in mind that my own struggles  brought me to the purpose of my life, which was waiting for me.

And that purpose was far, far beyond anything I could ever have imagined.

I want you to experience all the joy and all the fulfilment that He has intended for you.

I am beginning this story because the person I am going to write about had a great influence on my life, at the time of a crisis I once overcame. At the centre of it all is, in truth, the great love of Christ, which He has for every person in His own way. 

Nick Vujicic was born in 1982 in Australia, the first child in his family; yet he came into the world without arms or legs, with no medical explanation whatsoever. At the birth, his father and mother went through a great crisis, to the point that his mother did not want to hold or breastfeed him for the first four months of his life. It took them a long time to believe that God had not made a mistake. After Nick, they raised two more children, both born completely healthy.

For a certain time God granted them faith and hope for their son's future: "They grieved, and then decided to raise their disabled son to be "normal", as much as that could be. My parents are unshakeable believers, and so they were convinced that God had surely given them such a son for a reason".

But as the years passed, throughout his childhood, Nick encountered a great deal of humiliation, rejection and fragile self-confidence. He was bullied, fell into depression and was constantly lonely, wondering day after day why he was different from others, and why God had not given him what everyone else had. During his school years he had to hide from the other children so they would not mock and tease him. Everyone around him felt uneasy and confused, because at first glance he did not look like a person. At the age of 8 he attempted suicide, wanting to drown himself in a bathtub full of water; however, he could not go through with it, because he felt sorry for his parents, who loved him.

He himself says that he ought to have been grateful to God for what he had, rather than angry over what he lacked: "Life may seem cruel to you right now. You may be wondering whether your situation will ever improve. I assure you that you cannot even imagine the good that awaits you if you do not give up. Stay focused on your dream. Do whatever it takes to stay in the game. You have the power to change your own circumstances. Go after what you want".

His mother kept telling him that God would use him and do great things through him. Trusting her, and God, throughout that whole story, he surrendered to God to lead his life. He soon realised that life has no meaning if a person is whole on the outside but broken within. He surrendered his life completely to Christ when he read the passage in the Gospel of Luke about the man born blind. At that moment they ask Jesus: "Why is this man blind?", and He answers them: "That the works of God might be made manifest in him". Having read that passage, Nick came to believe completely that God had an enormous plan for him.

Surrendering himself in this way to the Creator of all things, his life began to turn into something he could never have imagined. He understood that he was a beloved child of God, that his sins were forgiven, and that he had a great mission: "A life without meaning is a life without hope. A life without hope is a life without faith. If you find a way to make your contribution, you will find your meaning, and hope and faith will come of themselves and accompany you into the future".

Already at 19 he began holding seminars around the world about how Jesus had brought him back to life and given him meaning. Many who listen to him regularly weep, and within them is born a gratitude to God for everything He has given them in life. In the meantime, he graduated from two universities, founded several schools for children with special needs, built orphanages and encouraged many young people who were on the verge of suicide. He owns a motivational-speaking production company, publishes books, swims, surfs, fishes, and skydives: " Discovering your own purpose is crucial. I assure you that you have something to give. You may not see it now, but if that were not so, you would not be in this world. I know for certain that God makes no mistakes, but He does make miracles. I am one of them. So are you. I know for certain that miracles happen, but only to those who persevere in hope. What is hope? It is the place where dreams are born. My hope reaches beyond our earthly life. The highest hope is in heaven."

God sent him a beautiful woman who loves him, and with her he now has four children. Through his testimony, several hundred thousand people have been converted and come to know the love of Christ — and all this without limbs! This is meant to show us how God is glorified in our weakness, and that every life has meaning: "When you need compassion, give it. When you need friendship, be a friend."

To finish, we close with Nick's own words: "God loves you, He has not forgotten your pain, He has not forgotten your family, and perhaps, reading this article, you are comparing your suffering to mine. However, that does not matter, because God tells you: your suffering is nothing compared to the future glory and joy that await you if you come to believe in Jesus Christ, who loved you even while you were still a sinner, and died on the cross for you. Never forget that God never gives up on you. Keep moving forward, because action creates momentum, and momentum gives birth to unexpected possibilities."
